LETTER from the editor
The beautiful October weather is wonderful after the long hot summer and lends itself to getting outside. Outdoor activities abound, including numerous festivals and special events.
Happy 20th anniversary to Cruisin’ the Coast, the country’s largest block party. What began as a way of boosting visitors at a slow time of the year with only 374 cars registered has grown in leaps and bounds. Approximately 8,000 cars are expected to register this year and many more will join in
the cruisin’ without
officially registering.
We’ve included the
Cruisin’ schedule
of events so readers
can keep track of
all the happenings
spread across three
counties.
A big Thank you for the wonderful article and photos on the Granly Danish community story in the August issue. The photographer and reporter were so gracious and the members of the Granly Danish community appreciate the story being published.

We’ve also
included the official
guide for the Peter
Anderson Arts &
Crafts Festival in
this month’s edition
even though it takes
place November 5 and 6. The guide can provide advance planning to see which of your favorite artists are returning and check out a few new ones, along with food vendors and entertainment.
This month in Sports & Outdoors we have tips on fall fishing and an account of Brett Favre’s homecoming at Hancock High School where he began his football career.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. A lot of people all across the country will wear pink to foster awareness of the continuing fight against this disease. These will include a group of 20 local men who
have pledged to wear pink every day this month and raise funds for the campaign. We feature them, along with stories of breast cancer survivors, in a Breast Cancer Awareness special section.
In the People section, we pay tribute to the life and legacy of the late Jeremiah O’Keefe, a man who left his mark on this area.
On a lighter note in the People section, we’ve recapped the dancing action of the Red Cross fundraiser Moonlight & Magnolias. From a fundraising standpoint, it was a very successful night. And on an enjoyment scale, I bet no one had as much fun as I had. I can’t think
of a more memorable way to spend a major birthday than dancing and being surprised with a beautiful cake. Thank you Mary and Michael Sunderman and Mary Spain at the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino for a wonderful evening!
