achieved recognition as the Scranton Historic District, a designation granted
by the National Park Service. Achieving this status not only provided significant tax incentives, but also ensured the preservation of the city’s unique character.
The city’s growth would not have been possible without the help of our major industry partners. Pascagoula is fortunate to be known as an industrial hub on the Gulf Coast with businesses such as Singing River Health System, Bollinger Shipyards, Signet Maritime, Fairbanks Morse Defense and more, and now a stop on Amtrak’s Mardi Gras Line as well. Not only do
these organizations support Pascagoula’s economy, but they invest in the development
of our community. Partners such as Chevron Pascagoula Refinery, Mississippi Power and Ingalls Shipbuilding all helped pave the way to success.
Today, Downtown Pascagoula stands
as a shining example of successful
urban planning and revitalization. The revitalization efforts have incentivized more than $16.5 million in public funding to attract $51 million in private investment for a total of $67.5 million in downtown revitalization efforts. The impact of this transformation is undeniable as we now have 93 residential units, all fully occupied, where there were once only a few. The area, once dormant, is now a hub of activity, culture and community engagement.
