The size of the progressive does not affect the odds of hitting the jackpot. Each hand is independent, so whether the progressive is high or low, the odds remain the same. However, the higher the progressive, the more players play creating a more exciting and competitive atmosphere.
Smart money says to always play the progressive. If it hits and the $1 or $5 side bet isn’t made, the small win the player will receive will pale in comparison to what could have been — and no one wants to miss out on a big jackpot.
