MISSISSIPPI — If you see a dragon in a casino, you might look twice and think about running, especially if it is a fire- breathing dragon. But in February, there is no need to worry. During Chinese New Year, also referred to as Lunar New Year, dragons are popular and the traditional dragon dance is part of the celebration.
And this year, dragons take center stage as
the Year of the Dragon is celebrated. This good news for casino players as dragons are said to be symbols of authority, prosperity, and good luck. Several Mississippi casinos have events planned throughout February to help celebrate this special time of year. Although Chinese New Year is Saturday, Feb. 10, there are events, including concerts and tournament, all throughout the month.
Harrah’s Gulf Coast has Money Tree Drawings as a way to welcome in the Lunar New Year. On Saturday, Feb. 3, players club members who earn 800 tier credits from 3 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. will receive an envelope from the Money Tree for a chance to win up to $800 in Free Play. Players can earn up to five envelopes. Plus, 35 winners will be selected to pick additional envelopes between 6 and 9 p.m.

set for Sunday, Feb.

Blues Bar. The concert features live entertainment by Nicole Nguyen, Quang Le, and Hoang Bao Phong. The show starts at 8 p.m., doors open at 7 p.m.
At Boomtown Casino, a Lunar New Year dragon dance on Sunday, Feb. 4, starts outside the casino entrance and goes throughout the casino starting at 6 p.m.
Additionally, on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 23-24, players can participate in the $10,000 Lunar New Year Slot Tournament. Earn 100 points each day to participate. Tournament play is from 4 to 8 p.m.
Play both days and drop the lowest score. The top 50 winners will share $10,000 in PENN Slot Play.
To celebrate the Year of the Dragon, the Beau Rivage atrium will host a traditional lion dance at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 4, prior to a concert in Beau Rivage Theatre. The lion dance is free and open to the public, while tickets to the concert are available by calling (888) 567-6667.
Also on Feb. 4, on the casino floor, guests who earn 200 MGM
Rewards points between 12:01 a.m. and 2:50 p.m. may print a gift voucher at any promotional kiosk to redeem for a Beau Rivage Lunar New Year T-shirt. Vouchers are redeemable at the events desk located in the slot tournament area between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
And the Dragon’s Roar $150,000 Baccarat Drawing Series continues through March 21.
Scarlet Pearl Casino Resort is hosting an Asian dragon dance on Saturday, Feb. 10, at 7 p.m.
It won’t be a dragon dancing at Hard Rock Biloxi, but rather another lucky symbol of the Asian New Year. A lion dance takes place on Sunday, Feb. 18, at 6:30 p.m. The performers will mimic a lion’s movements in a lion costume to bring good luck and fortune.
The Year of the Dragon Baccarat Series at Golden Nugget continues with winners earning
entries weekly by playing at baccarat table games only. Receive one entry for every 20 tier credits earned. Each Monday, one winner will be selected to receive $800 in their choice of Table Bets or Free Play. Grand-prize drawings on select Saturdays, including Feb. 3, will have six winners selected to each win $1,000 in Table Bets or Free Play.
