Tunica casinos have star power
TUNICA — Casinos in Tunica continue to add headline en- tertainment. Jackpot! takes a look at performers now scheduled to appear.
• At Gold Strike Casino Resort, see Gladys Knight, Friday, Feb. 19. A seven-time Grammy Award-winner, Knight is known for the hits she recorded during three decades with her group Gladys Knight & the Pips. She has enjoyed No. 1 hits in pop, gospel, R&B and adult contemporary, and has triumphed in film, television and live performance. Knight has recorded two No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 singles (“Midnight Train to Georgia” and “That’s What Friends Are For”), 11 No. 1 R&B singles and six No. 1 R&B albums. All told, Knight has recorded more than 38 albums over the years.
See comedian Steve Trevino in the “I Speak Wife Tour” on Friday, March 11. A stand-up comedian, writer, and producer, Trevino has released three stand-up specials, the first of which was filmed for Showtime, the second released on Netflix, and the third on Amazon Prime Video. He also worked as a writer for Carlos Mencia’s Comedy Central show, “Mind of Mencia” and Pitbull’s “La Esquina.”

Between 1991 and 2003, the band recorded six studio albums, in addition to charting 14 singles on the Billboard country charts. Their highest-peaking American single was 1996’s “All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down,” a collabo- ration with accordionist Flaco Jiménez. They are best known in the UK for their 1998 single “Dance the Night Away”, which spent 18 weeks on the chart, peaking at No. 4. In 1996, The Mavericks won a Grammy Award for the song “Here Comes the Rain.”

on March 11. Lewis was a founding member and lead vocalist of the band Staid and is en- joying success as a country music solo artist.
Tom Segura, in the The Tom Segura: I’m Coming Everywhere World Tour, is coming the Horseshoe Tunica on Saturday, April 9. Hollywood, California’s most in-de- mand comedian, Segura continues his world tour into 2022 with his stop at Horseshoe Tunica. Paste Magazine describes Segura as, “...having a natural and capable storytelling ability, one that lifts his narratives out of av- erage anecdote fare and plants them firmly in hilarious ground.” Known for his Netflix specials, “Ball Hog” (2020), “Mostly Stories” (2016) and “Completely Normal” (2014), Segura will get lots of laughs.

• Horseshoe Tunica welcomes America for its 50th Anniver- sary Tour, Friday, Feb. 4. America, the perennial classic-rock favor- ite, is celebrating its 50th Anniversary with powerful performances. Founding members, Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell (along with former band mate, the late Dan Peek) met in high school in London in the late 1960s and quickly harmonized their way to the top of the charts on the strength of their signature song “A Horse With No Name.” America became a global household name and paved the way with an impressive string of hits following the success of their first No. 1 single. America’s albums—six certified gold and/or platinum, with their first greatest hits collection, History, hitting four plus million in sales—displayed a fuller range of the trio’s talents.
Jeff Dunham, comedy superstar and America’s favorite ventriloquist, originally scheduled for July 23, 2020, and initially re- scheduled for July 22, 2021 at Tunica’s Horseshoe Casino, has been rescheduled again for June 23, 2022. • Fitz Casino & Hotel is home to the Valentine’s Weekend
Blues Concert featuring J-Wonn, Avail Hollywood and Dre Walker on Saturday, Feb. 12, at 8 p.m. J-Wonn is a soul singer who has built a name for himself following the release of his hit single “I Got This Record.” J-Wonn followed up “I Got This Record” with several oth- er hits that were in continuous rotation on Southern Soul radio sta- tions across the Southeast region. Avail Hollywood’s first album, The Young Gunn of Southern Soul, was No. 1 on the Southern Soul Network and ranked on the 2009 Mainstream R&B National Billboard. The Young Gunn Of Southern Soul album is best known for its song “Don’t Leave Me,” voted the best begging song of 2009.
